Welcome
Ladies and Gentlemen, Esteemed Educators, Parents, and Beloved Students, it is with great pleasure that we extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all and sundry to the Junior High School (JHS) Department of the prestigious AngloGold Ashanti School, Obuasi.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams.” At AGA School, we wholeheartedly embrace this sentiment, which underpins our every endeavor. We are dedicated to nurturing the dreams of our students and working tirelessly to help them achieve their aspirations.
In our educational journey, we place the student at the epicenter of our teaching and learning processes, as well as other carefully selected co-curricular activities aimed at instilling confidence and nurturing holistic development. Recognizing the individuality of each student, we provide them with the opportunity to progress at their own pace.
One of the pillars of our success is our unvacillating commitment to professionalism. We take pride in fostering exceptional relationships among teachers, students, and parents, which we believe are pivotal to a thriving educational environment.
Our JHS Department
The JHS Department, as the terminal point of our School, is entrusted with the responsibility of refining the solid foundation our students receive from the primary school in preparation for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This mandate has been executed diligently, earning the admiration of all our stakeholders. Our department is staffed with highly dedicated and licensed teachers, each possessing a minimum of a first degree in education. In total, we have thirty-five (35) teachers in the department, entrusted with the education of approximately seven hundred and fifty (750) students.
We operate a five-stream (A-E) classroom system, which encompasses a total of fifteen (15) classrooms. A typical school day begins at 6:45 a.m. when students and teachers gather, with lessons commencing promptly at 7:00 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m. daily.
Achievements
Reflecting on our journey, we are immensely proud of our consistent excellence in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) over the past five years. Our outstanding results have garnered us three (3) presidential awards in 2018, 2020, and 2022, respectively. Emerging as the Best-Performing Basic School in the Ashanti Region in the national BECE Examinations for five consecutive years, we have become synonymous with high academic achievement.
However, our commitment to holistic education extends beyond academics. We actively engage in various competitions to uncover the hidden talents of students who excel in sports, singing, dancing, and fine arts. Notably, our girls’ soccer team triumphed as winners of the 2022 and 2023 inter-school ball games, clinched the zonal championship, and secured the Super Cup, earning them the title of Super Cup champions in 2023.
In the realm of culture, our school choir emerged victorious in the choral division of the inter-school cultural festival organized by the Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate. They continued their winning streak, triumphing at the zonal and regional levels, and they will be representing the Ashanti region at the national level in the 2023 National Art and Cultural Festival of Basic Schools in Wa.
Master Gregory Kwakwa Ansah emerged as the best discovery in the talent discovery category at the regional level and would also be representing the region at the National event.
Our school’s representatives showcased their talents in the art division, securing the first and second positions at the inter-school and zonal levels. At the regional level, Master Wenceslaus Oppong Mensah clinched the 3rd position, a testament to the dedication and skill our students bring to every competition.
These accomplishments underscore our dedication to nurturing and celebrating the diverse talents of our students, ensuring that our school shines brightly on multiple fronts.
Discipline and Values
At AGA School, discipline and cleanliness are the bedrock of our ethos. We have developed comprehensive rules and regulations designed to guide the behavior of our students both within the school premises and at home. These regulations are carefully crafted to promote good conduct, instill values, and empower our students to become confident and purposeful individuals.
We take pride in the discipline demonstrated by our students wherever they go. It is a testament to the values instilled within them during their time at our school.
In closing, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our stakeholders who have unwaveringly supported us in our mission to establish a modern model school dedicated to inspiring, renewing, and transforming the minds of our students, thereby equipping them to address the contemporary challenges of our society.
Thank you for your trust in AGA School, and we look forward to continued growth, excellence, and success together.
