Mr. Hussein Abugri, Senior Manager Administration has said the Obuasi mine is undergoing major transformation to put the mine on sound footing to produce more ounces in order to generate more revenue and cash flow to support its commitment to shareholders and other stakeholders.
Mr. Abugri, who was speaking at the celebration of the 25 years of AngloGold Ashanti School membership of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Networking (ASPnet) programme held at Obuasi called on all stakeholders to support the transformation efforts.
Under the theme “Sustainability of UNESCO ASPnet Through International Cultural Exchange”, the celebration was graced by chiefs, Ghanaian and Danish students and parents.
Mr. Abugri commended the UNESCO ASPnet of their activities and their support for Ghanaian schools and urged the latter to take advantage of UNESCO programmes to expand their knowledge beyond Ghana.
In his keynote address, Barima Offe Akwasi Okogyeasuo II, Omanhene of Kokofu Traditional Area, who was the special guest of honour, said he was honoured and impressed that the seed he sowed 25 years ago has yielded good results and called for more cooperation between ASPnet and the AGA School.
Barima Okogyeasuo II, who was the first Ghanaian headmaster of the AGA School, said the programme has served as a platform for exchange of ideas and experiences, and urged beneficiary students to extend what they have learnt to their peers and colleagues in the communities.
On his part, Mr. Apollonius Osei-Akoto Asare, National UNESCO ASPnet Coordinator, commended the AGA School for promoting quality and dedicated educational service delivery to the Obuasi community and Ghana, as a whole.
The Danish students, who came all the way from Denmark for the celebration, thanked the AGA School for their hospitality and the opportunity given them to visit Ghana. They said with this journey, they hope to contribute to global understanding and teachings on human rights.
